Plantago lanceolata

A picture of a flowering plant is not very common in January. However if you have a greenhouse where you can regulate temperature, let’s say to 25°C, it’s easy. Here is one of my plant species Plantago lanceolata (Spitzwegerich) in full bloom. On the flower you can see the pollen.

Carnivores

I made a shocking discovery in the greenhouse today. I have carnivorous plants! This means they eat animals. And it’s a common weed in Switzerland (Senecio viscosus). If I stop blogging you know I’ll be eaten by my plants.

The secret is that they have little hairs that release a gluey liquid that traps the insects.

Elephants at Mfuwe Lodge

A year ago I spent 2 month in Zambia. This was an extraordinary experience for me and I will never forget it. I spent three days in Mfuwe national park at the Mfuwe Lodge. Beside all the animals we saw there was a strange morning ritual. At 6 am in the morning some elephants would walk right through the lobby of the lodge. I never saw them, because I did not get out of bed so early. But people showed us their pictures.

le boudoir

This little shop very close to my office (which is very convenient) is the nicest shop in Zürich. The shop is full of lovely things and I guarantee that you will always find several things you wanna buy.

There is also a blog where you can find out what’s new in the shop.

(the pictures are all from the blog).

Ecosia

Ecosia is a „green“ web browser that saves rain forest. 80% of it’s income is sponsored to WWF. The server is run by green power. And whatever you type into the browser is deleted after 48h. Cool let’s try it!

Reading

What I have been reading lately:

Sechseläuten, Michael Theurillat, 2009, Ullstein Buchverlag GmbH, Berlin. Crime, that takes place in Zürich.

Der Teufel von Mailand, Martin Suter, 2006, Diogenes Verlag AG, Zürich. Novel, that takes place in the Swiss mountains.

Der norwetische Gast, Anne Holt, 2008, Piper Verlag GmbH, München. Crime that takes place in the Norwegian mountains. Unfortunately I read it in German and not in Norwegian.
